Ally McCoist liquidationAs the final chapter in the brief history of Sevco draws near there is one feature that needs no explanation- honest mistakes.

The journey of adventure and fun through the lower divisions has cost the club all the proceeds of a £22m share issue and been accompanied by that incredible knack of decisions that always just tumble their way.

Whether it’s Lee McCulloch’s record breaking tally from the penalty spot or opponents reduced to ten men almost every match leaves opponents wondering why the breaks didn’t go their way.

On Saturday relegation threatened Arbroath lost 2-1 at Gayfield, after losing 3-2 at Ibrox in January striker Paul McManus felt a familiar feeling.

“The goal they got? Same old Rangers,” he said. ‘When things aren’t going for them, they get a bit of luck. Not just off the linesmen and referees – it was a ricochet off one of their players and the ball goes in the back of the net. At the end, Rangers were hanging by a thread.

“I was arguing with Lee McCulloch on the park because I felt he went down too easy.

“We played them off the park at Ibrox and got nothing. They got a late penalty through Jon Daly, who I felt went down easy then.

‘They won that game and decisions like that… we even saw it on Saturday with certain decisions down the side, when the flag never went up. We worked hard and never got anything out the game. It’s typical Rangers.”

With auditors Deloitte raising alarm about the club’s ability to continue as a going concern in last week’s unqualified interim accounts it seems that Sevco’s biggest challenges are off the park and in the boardroom, on the park things seem much more certain.
