Coach looks for return to winning ways

John Kennedy Celtic news

John Kennedy wants to see Celtic’s u-20 side return to winning ways when they face St Mirren tonight at Cappielow, kick off 7pm.

A six match winning run- without losing a goal- came to a halt when the hoops lost 1-0 to Hibs last week leaving them in joint top place alongside Sevco on 44 points with ten games left to play.

Two derby matches with the Ibrox club will have a major bearing on the destiny of the title but a win tonight against St Mirren is essential to maintain the momentum built up since the turn of the year.

“The pressure is on everyone if they want to win the league,” Kennedy said looking at the title run in. “They know that the they weren’t at the races in the first half against Hibs.

“The fight and urgency in their play after the interval was better and it’s important that they take that forward. Losing was a sore one to take and we need to make sure that we are on the ball against St Mirren and play for the full 90 minutes.

“In the second half against Hibs we had enough chances to get at least a point, even after we went down to ten men when Darnell Fisher got set off.

“The first half was disappointing, we never put Hibs under any real pressure, they never really threatened us but took their chance and scored.

“We just couldn’t put away our own chances, a few efforts were blocked, there was enough there to get a goal and I think that if we had scored we could have gone on to win it.

“It was disappointing to lose after being on a good run but the top of the table is very tight, all that we can do is win our next match and take it from there.”
