Willie McStay newsWillie McStay remains hopeful that Celtic Nation can achieve promotion from the Northern League Division One.

Celtic Nation complete their 44 match campaign tomorrow at home to Morpeth Town but look set to finish as runners-up to Spennymoor Town who will gain automatic promotion to the Evo-Stik League.

The complex financial regulations of the English pyramid mean that there could be an opening in the top division with McStay hopeful that there may be good news  once the season ends.

Once again a number of Celtic supporters buses will travel to Carlisle tomorrow with McStay hoping to put on a show to bring down the curtain on the league campaign and go into Tuesday’s Cumberland Cup Final against Aspratia at Brunton Park.

“Winning on Saturday would show people that we are ready for the next step,” the former Celtic coach told the club website.

“There is this thing inside me that looks at the table and looks at teams above who are struggling. The pyramid system is very complicated and if teams drop out for financial reasons, travel or whatever it may be, we’re sitting here waiting.

“We’ve got to cling on to that hope that we get the result and Spennymoor fail but also the hope that somewhere along the line, two go up.

“It was rumoured midway through the season that there could be a chance so there’s something there to hang on to in the position we’re in. It’s still up in the air and we’ve got to make sure that when people look at our club, they see a club that’s going somewhere.”

McStay added: “It’s been a fantastic season for us and we want to cement second place to show that we are up there as one of the best teams in the league.

“My objective was to stabilise results and push next year. It went that well that we’re pushing (for promotion) this year.”

Tomorrow’s match kick’s off at 3pm, admission £5 adults, £1 concessions.
