Jackie McNamara CelticJackie McNamara is heading for Celtic Park on May 17 for the final of the Scottish Cup after Dundee United beat Sevco 3-1 at Ibrox in the semi-final of the competition.

Stuart Armstrong, an own goal from Bilel Mohsni and a late strike from Nadir Ciftci were too much for the First Divisions champions who were given some hope when Stevie Smith pulled the score back to 2-1 three minutes before the break.

Despite conceding home advantage United were always in control, overcoming a number of baffling decisions from Bobbie Madden to send 12,000 fans home happy and looking forward to the final against Aberdeen or St Johnstone.

In the 18th minute Dean Shields missed a great chance to put Sevco in front but with the goal at his mercy Deano screwed his shot wide of the target with United opening the scoring five minutes later.

Armstrong timed his run perfectly to connect with a ball played through the centre of the home defence and guided his shot wide of Steve Simonsen from 15 yards out.

Ten minutes from half-time Ryan Gould carved open the home defence with his cut back met by Gary Mackay-Steven whose shot struck Mohnsi are arched into the net.

United were denied a clear penalty moments later when Mohsni chopped Ciftci in front of Madden with Sevco capitalising on that when Smith pulled a goal back from a free-kick in the 42nd minute.

Sevco pushed hard for an equaliser without really testing the United defence but their hopes died in the 83rd minute when a horrendous blunder by Simonsen presented Ciftci with the easiest of chances with the striker gleefully driving the ball into the net.

Despite the controversy over ticket allocations only 41,059 fans attended the match.
