Kris Commons newsKris Commons was tonight voted Player of the Year by his fellow professionals at the PFA Scotland awards night.

The goalscoring midfielder picked up the award ahead of team-mates Frasder Forster and Virgil van Dijk with Kilmarnock’s Kris Boyd also making the shortlist.

Commons has been in outstanding form for Celtic throughout the season breaking through the 20 goal barrier with something to spare as he drove Neil Lennon’s side on to their third successive title.

Behind every successful man there is a driven lady on twitter with Lisa Hague quick to congratulate her prize winning man.

“So proud of you @kcommons15 POTY you thoroughly deserve it x wahoooooo,” she tweeted.

Team-mate van Dijk added: “Congratz to @kcommons15 on winning the award!”

On a similar note midfielder Beram Kayal tweeted: “Congratulations @kcommons15 on being voted player of the year.”

Following a similar script Foster tweeted: “Congratulations @kcommons15 on being voted player of the year!!! Well deserved.”

Former Scotland captain Gary McAllister presented Commons with his award with praise flowing in from all corners of twitter for the popular Celt.

There was disappointment however for Neil Lennon when he was overlooked for the manager of the year award which went to Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes. With three matches left to play Celtic are 27 points ahead of Aberdeen.

Andrew Robertson of Dundee United picked up the Young Player of the Year award with the defender making a big impact on the top flight after stepping up from Queens Park.

A special merit award went to Stranraer’s Frank McKeown who turned out for the League One club the day after being on duty at the Clutha Vaults as a fireman.
