Celtic Walk 1The transformation of the area to the front of Celtic Park will be completed today with the opening of the Celtic Way.

Billy McNeill will lead the way before the match with Aberdeen as the area outside the stadium is transformed linking  the frontage of the stadium to the recently constructed Emirates Arena.

The highlight of the make-over is a brilliant tree-lined sandstone pathway complete with images of Celtic’s greatest moments.

Until midway through the current season there was little sign of any transformation but the closing of the car park and recent demolition of the London Road school has accelerated the works.

Over the last few months supporters have been kept at arms length as work went on with only a few pictures emerging of how the area was developing.
Celtic Walk 2With the current work now completed the whole frontage and approach to the stadium has been transformed over a 20 year period.

The old days of the school and car park separated by Kerrydale Street have been wiped away with a new landscaping project more akin to a shopping centre or five star hotel.

The whole area around Celtic Park, especially along Springfield Road, has been transformed with the new look Dalmarnock Train Station also adding to that horribly modern phrase of the ‘matchday experience’.

Inside the stadium today Celtic will attempt to beat Aberdeen at the third time of asking with Derek McInnes’ side responsible for the only Premiership defeat of the season.

With Mikel Lustig and Adam Matthews returning to fitness Neil Lennon’s squad is returning to full strength as the hoops boss attempts to complete the season by reaching 101 points with wins over the second placed side and both of the Scottish Cup finalists.
