Celtic twitter newsThe desperation of Neil Doncaster to complete a television deal in the summer of 2012 has been unearthed by twitter account Celtic Research.

Fresh from his claims of Armageddon after failing to get Sevco parachuted into the top tier of Scottish football Doncaster agreed to PAY ESPN for additional production costs is televising live matches from the bottom tier of Scottish football.

At the weekend Celtic Research broke the story that the SPL agreed to pay ESPN £250,000 in return for televising ten live matches. Tonight STV took the story mainstream.

ESPN pulled out of Scottish football with their agreement taken on by BT Sport who share live coverage of domestic football with Sky Sports.

News of the payments comes hot on the heels of the failure to provide live coverage of the Hibs v Kilmarnock Premiership match which was effectively a play-off play-off.

Sites such as Celtic Research have followed up on a number of issues that the footballing authorities would rather see buried out of sight of the footballing public.

The deal to pay ESPN effectively meant that every club in the SPL was paying money to have Third Division matches shown live on television.

With the merger of the SPL and the SFL in 2013 the new deal was absorbed by the SPFL while BT Sport picked up on the broadcasting side of the deal.

Scottish clubs receive around £12m a year for televising of their matches with comparable leagues such as in Norway and Austria picking up three times that amount despite football not being the national sport.
