Deathly silence of Dave King

Following months of statements, rallying calls and bluster it seems that Dave King has walked away from saving Sevco.

Following a board warning that his actions could be viewed as an attempt to drive down the share price of the club King has remained silent despite the launch of Ibrox1972 to take money off supporters.

Neither King nor Dick Gough have said a word in public since the launch of Ibrox1972 with the attacks on the board left to the Union of Fans and the Sins of Struth supporter groups.

Tellingly, after one token meeting with the rebel fans leaders, the Sevco board haven’t even bothered responding to their various statements and pointless publicity stunts.

Almost two months ago, on the eve of the Scottish Cup defeat from Dundee United, King urged fans to starve the directors out, since then the South African based tyre kicker has made just one statement.

In April the glib and shameless liar said: “An announcement will shortly be made providing details of a bank account that season ticket money can be paid into as an interim measure.

“The specific terms and conditions of this account will be made available to fans, including the basis on which funds will be advanced to the club and the basis on which funds will be returned to fans. As a minimum, the board must provide the club property as security against the season ticket money.

“I recognise that fans will have anxiety about “betraying” the club and the risk of loss of a cherished seat at Ibrox.  However, the time has come when the trade-off is a potential loss of a seat against the loss of the club. That would be the real betrayal. This board has lost its right to be dealt with on a good faith basis.

With less than 10,000 full priced season tickets sold and no momentum behind Ibrox1972 it seems that the new club is doomed to follow the old club into the history books through neglect.

In 2012 despite the high profile campaigns of former chairman Al Johnston, the Blue Knights, Jim McCall, Walter Smith, Paul Murray, Graeme Souness, Brian Kennedy and others no one came up with the funds for a CVA.

With King the only show in town Sevco seem on course to repeat the failures of Rangers with only the timing of administration to be decided.

A day before publication of the club’s 127 day review director Sandy Easdale, who served a jail term for VAT fraud in the 1990’s said: “In 140 years, the club’s gone into administration once. I don’t think it would survive a second one. So I would ask every loyal Rangers fan – and I pick my words correctly in saying ‘loyal Rangers fan’ – supports the club at this time and gives it a chance.”

Easdale’s lack of understanding of administration and liquidation is understandable- with the outlook bleak for Scotland’s youngest professional football club.
