Stefan Johansen wants Ronny Deila to turn him into a Champions League player.

The hoops midfielder is on holiday in Dubai but has kept a close eye on developments at home as his former boss at Stromsgodset takes over at Celtic.

Johansen’s transfer was the trigger that brought Deila to Celtic’s attention with the Norwegian duo tasked with taking Celtic into the group stage of the Champions League.

“I hope I can develop my skills under Ronny,” the midfielder told Norwegian website VG. “We are going for Champions League qualification, and those matches are a few notches up from the Premier League. I think he has a clear plan on what the team should look.

“I think he got a taste of what makes Celtic tick on Friday when he was introduced to the place. Ron will adapt quickly, he is like that and will enjoy himself.”

Explaining the events of the last few days Johansen added: “I got a phone call where they asked what I thought about Ron. I was honest and said that he is a good coach who is ready for bigger tasks. And I think he is a great manager abroad.

“I’m going to enjoy working with him again, he is a very talented coach and will bring a lot to Celtic.

“He has certainly done a lot for my career, he took me to Stromsgodset, showed faith in me and the position that suited my style of play.”

Celtic have been linked with a move for Brede Hageland who has been freed by Fulham following their relegation.

The 32-year-old is likely to receive other offers from England but after six years at Fulham may be tempted to work with Deila with the opportunity to play in the Champions League.
