The SFA are prepared to turn their back on 10,000 Tartan Army fans for the opening home qualifier of the 2016 European Championship campaign.

Ibrox was announced as the venue for the October 11 clash with Georgia despite the availability of Celtic Park to host the match.

With Hampden Park out of commission due to the Commonwealth Games the SFA had to choose a venue and have opted for the 50,000 capacity at Ibrox.

In a low key statement the SFA said: “Scotland’s first home match of the UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifying Campaign will be played at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow.

“The National Stadium, Hampden Park, is unavailable following its use as a Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games venue.

“Ticket details, and the venue for the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier against Republic of Ireland on Friday 14 November, will be confirmed shortly.”

The decision to take the game to Ibrox has gone down badly with Scotland fans being asked to fund a club that seems to in open conflict with the majority of Scottish football.

Under Charles Green the Ibrox side refused to take tickets for the 2013 Scottish Cup tie at Dundee United with various reasons given for the fans boycott.

A number of other boycotts have been proposed by the various Ibrox supporter factions as retaliation for the perceived injustices that followed the liquidation of Rangers 2012.

With the SFA taking a high profile international to Ibrox Sevco can expect to pick up a rental fee of around £200,000 from the fixture as well as negotiating a deal for corporate hospitality.
