spflEric Riley has been elected onto the board of the SPFL.

The Celtic director is joined by Duncan Fraser of Aberdeen and Stephen Thompson from Dundee United representing the Premiership clubs.

In it’s second season, the SPFL is still lumbered with Neil Armageddon Doncaster as chief executive with no company willing to risk it’s reputation by sponsoring the national game.

Doncaster is also a member of the board which is chaired by Ralph Topping with Eric Drysdale (Raith Rovers FC), Mike Mulraney (Alloa Athletic FC) and Ken Ferguson (Brechin City FC) also elected today.

Other than the result of the board elections no details have been given about today’s AGM which was staged at Gleneagles.

Whether Doncaster was questioned about the television deal where the SPFL PAID broadcasters to show lower division matches involving Sevco is unknown.

As well as being without a sponsor the current telly deal is a fraction of the contracts that benefit clubs in nations like Austria, Norway and Denmark never mind the multi-million deals in place in England.

Among the many failings of Doncaster and co no action was taken against Rangers (IL) for failing to register the Discount Option Scheme payments that were used to pay Tore Andre Flo, Craig Moore and Ronald de Boer.

Speaking to the SPFL website Doncaster said: “On behalf of the SPFL Board we’d like to welcome Eric Drysdale and Ken Ferguson, as elected by member clubs, both of whom we are confident will make valuable contributions for the overall good of the game.

“We would also like to sincerely thank Bill Darroch and Les Gray for their great commitment and enthusiasm during the first year of the SPFL, laying the foundations from which the Board will look to build on during the year ahead.”

Publishing minutes of the AGM would be a good start as the SPFL attempt to gain some credibility but with Doncaster and others that overseen the attempts to parachute Sevco into the top flight in 2012 there seems little hope of Scottish football prospering.
