charles greenAmerican billionaire George Soros has walked away from any deal to rescue Sevco.

On Friday Charles Green spoke of how he had new investors lined up for the ailing club and although he never personally mentioned Soros the 84-year-old’s name was linked with Green’s new investment plan.

One report even claimed that Soros and Green were huge fans of Brian Laudrup who could be lined up as a replacement for Ally McCoist.

Soros and the Soros Fund Management has no history of sporting investment but according to the off the record briefings from Green the 84-year-old wants to take Sevco to the forefront of world football cashing in on their international appeal and worldwide support.

According to BBC Scotland: “One of the interested parties is Soros Fund Management and it is believed the US-based group have held talks with a senior Rangers official.”

Dream on!

The Soros episode looks like being confined to the long list of porkies from Green who picked up almost a million pounds from the club during his spell as chief executive between June 2012 and April 2013.

As well as his salary, benefits and expenses Green and his fellow investors such as Imran Ahmad, Ally McCoist and Brian Stockbridge snapped up shares for one penny before offering shares to supporters at 70p.

In his latest interview the former Sheffield United chief warned about the dire situation Sevco are in with administration simply a matter of timing.

With no appetite from investors for another share issue Green believes that the future is bleak for the two year old football club.

“Raising cash is what I do,” he told the state broadcaster. “It’s what I’ve done for 30 years and it’s all I do. What is important is that the club is saved. If the club doesn’t raise cash then it won’t be able to continue to trade.

“If some fans would rather the club goes back into administration then they are not real fans. Sit and wait and see what happens – if I don’t raise the cash then that’s it but if I do the club will be stronger.”
