Celtic’s Karagandy flashback and Wakaso update

Celtic’s Champions League tie with Maribor will be refereed by Pavel Kralovec- who also took charge of last season’s Champions League play off tie away to Shakhtar Karagandy,

The hoops lost that match 2-0 but managed to turn the tie around in the return leg with a late strike from James Forrest securing a 3-0 win.

Kralovec was also in charge of last season’s Ajax v Barcelona group stage fixture which the Dutch side won 2-1 ending any hopes Celtic had of salvaging third place in the group.

Recent signings Jason Denayer and Alexsandar Tonov are both included in the Celtic squad registered with UEFA, as is Efe Ambrose for the benefit of the hard of thinking in Warsaw.

Celtic are hopeful of adding Wakaso Mubarek to their squad to face Maribor with John Collins hopeful that the paperwork can be completed on time.

Speaking at Glasgow Airport the hoops assistant said: “It is probably 50-50. The medical is being done overseas and hopefully he will join us over there (Slovenia), fingers crossed, but nothing definite.

“He has pace in the wider areas, can deliver on his left foot, that is what we are looking for, to add pace at the top of the pitch.”

James Forrest and Adam Matthews miss out through injuries with Collins hopeful that the winger’s injury problems can be resolved.

“He has had these niggling injuries the last couple of years but fingers crossed we can get him fitter and stronger and the injuries become less and less,” the former Hibs manager added. “It is disappointing for James but we will wait for him getting back fit because we know he is a good player.”

Celtic’s Development side face Dundee United at Tannadice tonight, kick off 7pm.
