Legia WarsawWhinging Legia Warsaw have asked Celtic for a play-off match for a place in the Champions League!

The Polish side have been in meltdown since it emerged that Bartosz Bereszynski was used against Celtic while still under a UEFA suspension.

In accordance with UEFA rules the punishment for such an offence is that the guilty team are given a 3-0 defeat allowing Celtic to go through on away goals thanks to Callum McGregor’s goal in Poland.

While Legia bleat and moan to anyone that cares to listen- not UEFA- it seems that St Pat’s Athletic are the forgotten victims in this saga.

By failing to register Bereszynski for the two matches against the Irish side Legia were able to select from a full squad rather than being a man down due to the defenders suspension.

Following a media conference today Legia issued a lengthy open letter to Celtic asking: “I appeal to men, that you have established to the best traditions of honor and integrity that the 126 years were characterised by your great club.

“Do not destroy the beautiful clubhouse heritage that you have left in the care of previous generations, “The Bhoys”. I challenge you, would you in the spirit of the game and fair play, and on the basis of Art. 34 paragraph 5 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations of Legia Warsaw took a common position on the UEFA disciplinary bodies. Meet in Warsaw or in Glasgow and let’s settle this matter honorably. ”

Rather than publishing open letters to Celtic Legia would be better off taking up their case with UEFA- and while they are at it they can explain the justice of having a full squad to pick from against St Pat’s rather than being a man down without the suspended Bereszynski.
