PukkiA youthful Celtic side was given some painful lessons by Spurs with the London side winning 6-1 in a friendly played in Helsinki.

Ronny Deila chose to stay at home to prepare for Wednesday’s Champions League return match against Legia Warsaw on Wednesday leaving John Collins to take charge assisted by John Kennedy.

There was little in the way of positives to take from the match with Spurs dominating throughout without ever getting close to top gear.

A red card for Efe Ambrose in stoppage time completed the misery for the small band of Celtic supporters with the Nigerian picking up successive sending’s off after seeing red in the 4-1 defeat from Legia Warsaw.

Teemu Pukki was the only player in Celtic’s starting side that is likely to be involved against Legia Warsaw with the Finnish internationalist given the captain’s armband for the match.

Efe Ambrose was paired with Eoghan O’Connell in the centre of defence while midfielders John Herron and Filip Twardzik slotted into the full-back positions.

It took Spurs just six minutes to take the lead with Andros Townsend cutting the ball back for Harry Kane to drill the ball high into the net from 15 yards out.

Six minutes later the lead was doubled when Roberto Soldado was given two chances at beating Craig Gordon- tucking the second attempt away from eight yards out.

After that disastrous start Celtic steadied the ship and began to make an impression on the match although there was danger every time Spurs got on the ball.

It was certainly a learning experience for the young Celts with Spurs looking sharp and ready for the start of the Premier League in two weeks time.

Four minutes from the break Celtic pulled a goal back, John Herron made good progress down the right before squaring the ball to Dylan McGeouch on the edge of the box. After finding his shot blocked by Friedel McGeouch sent in a cross from the left with  Zeki Fryers getting above Jamie Lindsay to head the ball beyond Friedel despite the keeper’s attempt to claw the ball clear.

Before the interval Spurs restored their two goal lead when Townsend and Kane combined to set up Lewis Holtby who placed his shot low past Gordon into the net.

Spurs enjoyed the luxury of making six half-time changes with the hoops bringing on Amido Balde, Conor McManus and to replace Pukki and Jackson Irvine.

It was more of the same after the break as Spurs pushed forward in search of more goals with Celtic content to funnel back to protect Gordon.

The fourth Spurs goal duly arrived just past the hour mark when Erik Lamela shot from 30 yards took a nick off McManus before flying past Gordon into the net.

Eight minutes from the final whistle Christian Eriksen netted from a 25 yard free kick after Ambrose had picked up a yellow card for fouling Emmanuel Adebayor.

Rubbing salt into Celtic’s wounds Adebayor scored a 90th minute penalty after Ambrose had downed Danny Rose as the full-back ventured into the penalty box. There was more punishment to follow for Ambrose when he was sent off in stoppage time for another foul on Adebayor.
