Fraser Forster is expected to complete a £10m move to Southampton over the weekend.
The Premiership side have been tracking the keeper all summer and had a £4m offer rejected by Celtic two weeks ago.
Talks have continued over the last few weeks with a deal agreed between the clubs today despite Celtic’s Champions League reprieve.
While the departure has been on the cards losing the giant keeper ahead of the Champions League play-off against Maribor will concern Celtic fans.
Pitching Craig Gordon in would be a massive gamble by manager Ronny Deila with long term back-up Lucasz Zalusja also in contention.
Forster’s move to Southampton will see Artur Boruc moving on- four years ago Forster replaced the Holy Goalie as Neil Lennon reshaped the Celtic team.
After a nervy first season the giant Geordie started to shine midway through his second loan season with a late penalty save against Hearts in December 2011 one of the key turning points as Celtic overhauled a 15 point deficit on Rangers (IL).
Forster joined Celtic in a £1.5m permanent deal from Newcastle in the summer of 2012. After excelling in the Champions League qualifiers against Hellsingborg he put up two incredible displays against Barcelona that brought him to the attention of clubs across Europe.
On Wednesday night he handed over his Celtic shirt to a fan at the end of the game and appeared to wave farewell as e left the pitch at Murrayfield.
Asked after the match if Forster had played his last game for the club Deila said: “I don’t think so, we will see, but things have happened so quickly this last month you never know what’s happening.
“If that is happening we have to deal with that and that’s a position where we have good cover and opportunities.”
As he travels south to become a Southampton player Forster goes with the best wishes of the Celtic support after playing a lead role in the successes of the last four seasons.
