Champions LeagueCeltic will find out this morning if they are to replace Legia Warsaw in the play-off round of the Champions League.

UEFA are likely to award the hoops a 3-0 victory over the Polish side after bungling coach Henning Berg used Bartosz Bereszynski in the final few minutes at Murrayfield on Wednesday night.

Bereszynski was given a three match ban after being suspended against Apallon of Cyprus with Legia failing to register the defender for the second round qualifiers against St Pat’s.

If UEFA follow other similar incidents Celtic will be re-instated into the Champions League leaving Ronny Deila just two matches away from reaching the group stage of the Champions League.

Standing between Celtic and the group stage are Ludogorets Razgrad (Bulgaria), Maribor (Slovenia), Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia), Malmo and Aalborg.

While none of these sides carry any great reputation they have all earned their place in the final play off round by victories on the park through fielding eligible players.

Aalborg produced probably the best performance of the week by winning 2-0 away to Dinamo Zagreb after losing 1-0 at home.

Celtic have bad memories of playing the Danish side, losing 2-1 in Aalborg in 2008 thanks to a Gary Caldwell own goal, and finishing bottom of their Champions League group.

The appearance of Malmo and Maribor in the draw is bound to bring a smile to the face of hoops fans with those two clubs playing a massive part in the liquidation of Rangers.

In 2011, while carrying the £6m tax bill from the wee tax case, Rangers lost out to unseeded Malmo in the third qualifying round of the Champions League forcing Ally McCoist’s side into a Europa League play-off.

Unfortunately for new Ibrox owner Craig Whyte Maribor turfed the Ibrox side out of the Europa League cutting off a lucrative source of income for the club who went into administration in February 2012.

If UEFA decide against awarding Celtic a 3-0 win due to the appearance of Bereszynski Deila’s side will be seeded in the play-off round for the Europa League.
