Bolton Wanderers - Neil Lennon Press ConferenceFormer Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing is delighted with the impact that Neil Lennon has had on Bolton.

Two wins over Birmingham and Brentford have raised the spirits of a club that seemed on course for League One.

Saturday’s visit to Norwich should provide a real guide to how much progress Bolton have made under Lennon with the club captain enjoying the new found belief around the club.

“I just think the manager has come in and given me a bit of belief,” Spearing told the Bolton News. “He has given me my confidence back; letting me do what he knows I can do.

“He has come in and given the lads a new lease of life. They seem to be taking his energy off him. You can just see around the place the belief and confidence is slowly coming back.

“With his backroom staff they have given the lads massive belief. The training is getting quicker, sharper and, touch wood, we’re on the way up. Training has been getting better and we are now starting to put it into games.”

The Lennon effect has been felt across the club with Spearing adding: “It is not just me, all the lads have been given freedom to express themselves, especially going forward. It just seems to be flying out of everybody now, especially the likes of Chungy (Chung-Yong Lee).

“He has become a different player. He has stepped up and is going to cause a lot of problems.

“Even the subs who came on( in the win over Brentford), especially Craig Davies, it’s a massive boost for him (to score) and he thoroughly deserves it.

“He (Lennon) has just given a lot of belief and the licence to express themselves going forward. I’m the one who is supposed to get on the ball and let them go and play and score the goals and that is exactly what three of them did on Saturday.”
