PrisonThe four men detained by Police Scotland yesterday in relation to events at Ibrox will appear in court on Monday.

After recently holding court in the blue room of dignity Dave Whitehouse, Paul Clark, David Grier and Gary Withey spent last night at Her Majesty’s convenience assisting police with their inquiries.

Whitehouse and Clark seem key to the matter when acting as administrators for Craig Whyte they passed the assets of the club over to Charles Green for a knockdown £5.5m.

While other clubs in Scotland work away to improve their facilities there must have been plenty wondering how a club can purchase a five star stadium and state-of-the-art training complex for the same price as was paid for Nikica Jelavic and James Beattie.

The exact circumstances that Police Scotland are investigating will only become clear on Monday when the men appear in court with speculation covering a number of areas.

Dave Murray’s claim that he was duped into the £1 sale of the club to former billionaire Craig Whyte seems dubious while the complex arrangements between Murray, Lloyds TSB, Ticketus and Whyte has never been transparent with the relationship between Sevco 5088, Sevco Scotland and Rangers International Football Club far from clear.

While the police activity is related to previous regimes it could have a devastating impact on the current club at Ibrox which has been kept afloat by crisis loans from Mickey Ashley.

If there are any grounds for questioning the ownership of the Ibrox Cark Park or Edmiston House the validity of Mr Ashley’s secured loans will be in doubt which is likely to deny the club any further loans.

A police statement on Friday read: “Following a Police Scotland operation, four men have been arrested and are presently detained in police custody in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged fraudulent acquisition of Rangers FC in 2011.

“Around 6am, officers from Police Scotland, assisted by officers from Thames Valley, Cheshire Police and Surrey Police attended at a number of addresses in England and detained four men. They have now been arrested and are currently detained in police custody.”
