Campbell Ogilvie has confirmed that the SFA has written to Mike Ashley about his growing influence at Sevco.

SFA rules prevent owners of non Scottish clubs from having more than a 3% stake in member clubs but agreed to allow Ashley a 10% stake in Sevco under the highly secretive five way agreement that fast-tracked the club into senior football.

Having clearly breached one of the conditions of membership it would seem obvious that sanctions would be applied but with the deal under lock and key it’s unclear whether there are any punishments for breaking the agreement.

Mr Ashley requested an EGM on October 8 but it took last week’s £2m crisis loan conditional on the appointment of two directors to force the SFA into action.

“We’ve written to the club itself and to Mike Ashley looking for clarification,” SFA president Ogilvie confirmed yesterday.  “We’re waiting for replies to that and we’ll take it from there.

“We need more information at this stage. There could be a meeting. We wrote to them at the end of last week and we’re waiting for a reply.

“That could lead to a meeting between the SFA and the club – and, indeed, Mike Ashley and his advisors. That would be the next step. Then we’ll take it from there. But we really need more information.”

With no firm plan it is unlikely that Ashley will be spending any time dealing with the SFA’s letter never mind sitting down for lunch with Ogilvie and his cronies.

If Mr Ashley needs to drag up any precedents he can ask the SFA how they are progressing with the £200,000 fine given to Craig Whyte in 2012 which has still to see the light of day despite the promise of court action. It’s believed that Mr Whyte has audio recordings of his various meetings with Stewart Regan and other football officials.
