WhyteCraig Whyte, and his tape collection, are back in the UK after the former billionaire flew into Heathrow this afternoon.

The former Rangers (IL) supremo was met on arrival by Police Scotland and will appear in court tomorrow.

A warrant had been issued for Mr Whyte’s arrest with the 43-year-old giving himself up after hearing that Dave Murray will be one of the witnesses called at any trial.

Mr Whyte negotiated with Mr Murray for six months before getting the club for £1 and is believed to have extensive recordings of most of the negotiations.

Those tapes are likely to form a crucial part of the investigation into the sale of the club in 2011 which was quickly followed by administration and liquidation.

Last week Gary Withey, David Whitehouse, Paul Clark, and David Grier appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court following a weekend in the cells being interviewed about their role in the events of 2011.

Whyte was responsible for bringing in Whitehouse and Clark, working for Duff & Phelps, as administrators but despite running up a bill in excess of £3m for their efforts they were unable to produce a CVA to save the club.

Liquidators BDO and Police Scotland have been working on the case since Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs refused a vague CVA put forward by a consortium fronted by Charles Green.

It’s not clear whether further arrests are likely but it has been reported that a lengthy number of characters will be called on for a court case including Murray, Walter Smith and other directors at the time that the club was sold.

The criminal investigation doesn’t directly impact on Sevco but does raise questions of ownership over key assets such as Ibrox Stadium and the state-of-the-art training complex at Murray Park.

Sevco have still to publish audited accounts for the year to 30 June 2014 with the recent trickle of bad news increasing concerns that auditors Deloitte’s are unable to sign the club off as a going concern prompting the likelihood of Armageddon II.
