SFANeil McCann’s hopes of Scottish Cup glory for Dunfermline were ended by Stranraer last night.

After drawing 2-2 in the first match hopes were high of a home win at East End Park but it was the visitors who ran out 3-1 victors to earn a home match against Dundee United in the fifth round.

Sky Sports pundit McCann was highly critical of John Guidetti during Celtic’s 4-0 win over Hearts but was unable to inspire his own side past the part-timers from Stair Park.

McCann mixes his television duties with assisting Jim Jefferies but it was Stevie Aitken of Stranraer who was celebrating when the final whistle blew.

That was a magnificent result and performance and the win was thoroughly deserved,” the Stranraer boss said.

To come here with part-time players, with their commitments away from work, and take on a full-time team who are rested and then dominate the game for long spells was excellent.

I am so pleased for Danny (on loan Sevco striker Storey). He had been given time off after suffering a recent bereavement but still phoned me to say he wanted to play.

He sums up the attitude in this squad and I was delighted to see him set up a goal.

We face United now, ?probably the toughest tie in this competition bar Celtic, but we are unbeaten in 16 games and look forward to it.”

Stranraer, Dunfermline and Morton are locked in second place in League One two points behind leaders Forfar Athletic.
