HendersonRonny Deila wants to send Liam Henderson out on loan.

The 18-year-old made a big impression towards the end of last season but has found opportunities limited under the new regime.

Scott Brown, Stefan Johansen, Beram Kayal, Nir Bitton and Charlie Mulgrew are all competing for places in central midfield with Henderson frozen out of the first team since August.

Callum McGregor used a season at Notts County to accelerate his top team prospects with Deila looking for a similar move for Henderson who yesterday helped Celtic’s u-20 side to a 3-0 win away to Dundee United in the SFA Youth Cup.

I think the players are thinking of their own situation and we have to talk to them and find the right option for them,” Deila explained about his side’s development squad. “It’s also looking at the younger players and seeing if we can loan them out, so they come back to us at a better level – just like Callum has done.

“When you talk about development and getting challenges at his level, Liam has a better level (than the Development League) and can play in the Premiership.

“Often the value can be better if they show themselves at the other clubs, and show that they are good players.

“Interest can go up in them, they can get confidence back and they can come back in and make a change. I think everything is better than sitting outside everything and not playing, for the player and for the club as well.”
