mccoist tashAlly McCoist refused to comment on his resignation after watching his side humbled 2-0 at Queen of the South.

Word of his resignation leaked out at lunchtime yesterday with the initial elation of Sevco fans quickly being replaced by anger as it became clear that the £800,000-a-year manager had only offered 12 months notice.

The spin machines of both camps have been in full flow to get their message across with McCoist aware that one word out of place could curtail his pay-off.

With doubts over whether Sevco can meet the December payroll it’s obvious that the club can’t pay off their manager meaning that he will have to limp along or be sent on gardening leave.

Pinning administration on McCoist will be one option for the club hierarchy if Mike Ashley decides that the managers situation is one onerous contract too many as he props up the League One champions.

“I have absolutely no comment on rumours,” the former Question of Sport skipper said after his team lost their fourth league match of the season. “I can’t have any bearing on speculation.”

Asked if he’d remain in charge he replied with a trademark: “Absolutely. I’m the Rangers manager and that will hopefully be the case for the foreseeable future.

“I told the players before the match I was the Rangers manager and I would continue to be the Rangers manager.

“We will be back in at Murray Park tomorrow. Will I be acting as if nothing has changed – 100 per cent.”

One piece of good news for the Ibrox men was the postponement of Hearts trip to Cowdenbeath this afternoon which has delayed the Edinburgh side the chance to open up a 12 point lead at the top of the Championship.
