GriffithsThe SPFL have produced a fantastic video from Celtic’s 2-0 League Cup semi-final victory.

Using angles and footage not shown by the the BBC the 2 minutes and 30 second video captures all the highlights of the match perfectly including Leigh Griffiths goal and celebration.

Adding to the quality of the clip there is footage of the Celtic fans huddle during the first half as well as the after match players salute and the Ronny Roar.

The video highlights what is possible in the digital age with the SPFL appearing to be moving closer to providing live online coverage of matches.

Rather than suffer through the nonsense of BBC Alba commentating on matches in a foreign language how much more viewers would watch online to a live and legitimate stream?

Using their You Tube channel highlights of all weekend matches are available from 6pm on a Sunday with midweek games shown from midnight on matchday.

With smart phone use commonplace and faster internet speeds available the Scottish game is getting closer to the SPL TV hopes of a decade ago which would have required sharing a platforms with companies such as Sky, Virgin or BT Vision.

Using YouTube or introducing a subscription service the football authorities would be able to offer live streaming services within the UK and also for worldwide viewers.

Despite the forecasts of Armageddon and civil unrest the Scottish game is in a healthier state than for a number of years.

Almost 30,000 fans attended the Dundee United v Aberdeen semi-final at Hampden on Saturday despite being charged the same prices as the Glasgow derby the following day.

In years past the north-east derby would likely to have been played at Tynecastle or Easter Road but with demand and quality on the rise it seems that new horizons are opening up through the digital age.
