|

Money in FootballSix weeks after signing Lewis MacLeod, Brentford have announced the dismissal of their entire management team.

Despite flying high in the Championship Mark Warburton and assistant Davie Weir have both been told that their contracts won’t be renewed at the end of the season. Sporting Director Frank McParland has been put on gardening leave.

Brentford swooped for MacLeod before the transfer window opened and despite no other bids on the table agreed a deal of £850,000 with Sevco that involved half of the fee being paid straight away with the balance paid up over three installments. MacLeod has still to kick a ball for his new club.

With finances stretched to breaking point at Ibrox big hearted director Sandy Easdale provided the club with a short term loan until the cheque from Brentford was cleared.

A club statement read: “The facility (loan) will be used by the company for general working capital purposes over the next few days.

Alexander Easdale will make available to the company up to £500,000 on a fee and interest-free basis and it will be secured against the income from the sale of a player announced on 2 January, 2015.”

Announcing the changes yesterday Brentford owner Matthew Benham said: “I am a passionate Brentford fan and every decision I take is intended to be in the best long term interests of the club. Some of the decisions taken to date have been easy and some, like this one, have been extremely hard.

Under Mark’s stewardship, Brentford have achieved a high league position and played football which is a joy to watch. It is difficult to seek to implement change, particularly when things appear to be going so well, but I am single minded in my resolve that we can leave no stone unturned in our quest for sustainable Premier League Football.”

Prior to his job at Brentford Weir was manager of Sheffield United but was sacked after one win in 13 matches.
