Neil-DoncasterThe board of the SPFL have wrong-footed Neil Doncaster after the latest bout of anti-catholic songs from Sevco fans.

While their chief executive was sticking to his guns about clubs doing all that they can (even when they are doing nothing) to prevent sectarian songs the board of the SPFL were arranging a conference call to crack down on the clubs followed by fans singing songs of hate.

No doubt shamed into action by Stan Collymore’s actions on twitter the SPFL board allowed their chief to go out on a limb on Tuesday morning.

Doncaster said: “It remains the SPFL’s position that if it can be established that clubs have done everything required in overall management of the event pre-match, during the game and post-match then they have no case to answer.”

Meanwhile, in a statement to STV the board of the SFA said: “An SPFL board meeting was convened by conference call this morning to discuss recent supporter misconduct at several matches.

“The strong view of the SPFL board is that such behaviour has no place in Scottish football. These events and the current regulations in this area will be reviewed and discussed in detail when the board meets in person at Hampden in March.”

It seems that the SPFL board have been shamed by the actions of UEFA and the FA in England to punish clubs whose fans sing sectarian songs at match.

In 2006 UEFA banned the singing of ‘The Billy Boys’ by Rangers (IL) and instructed the SFA to do the same.

With no action from Stewart Regan or Doncaster fans of Sevco have been turning up the songs of hate prompting Collymore to highlight their song-sheet at recent SPFL League Cup semi final at Hampden.

On Friday night Sevco fans will again be given a nationwide audience when their match at Falkirk is broadcast live by BT Sport.
