Chris GrahamSevco are under pressure to get rid of shamed director Chris Graham.

After news of his horrific anti-Islamic tweet came to light Police Scotland announced that they were investigating the incident while Muslim leaders have spoken out about the offensive nature of the tweet.

Comment from within Ibrox has been limited and defensive despite a number of fans voicing their concern that Mr Graham’s presence could see the club become a target for extremists in support and against the shamed director.

Yesterday a Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the media reports in relation to comments made on a social media site and we are now carrying out inquiries into this matter.”

Condemnation over the matter came from Dr Asid Khan, president of Glasgow Central Mosque said: “With freedom of speech comes great responsibility to not offend other people.

“In this case, such a tweet is very offensive to a large proportion of the population, not only Muslims.

“This was very irresponsible and reprehensible coming from a director of a football club.

“I would hope and expect Rangers to carry out an internal investigation into the issue and take what action they deem appropriate.

“A number of Muslims play for Rangers and I imagine they would be disgusted by this.”

Mazhar Khan, secretary of the Muslim Council of Scotland, added: “We reject all types of insulting and offensive behaviour, especially if it is against people’s religious beliefs or identity.

“We would hope that Rangers take the issue very seriously to establish whether a line has been crossed.

“We would hope that they at least look into this. However, we would leave it to the judgement of Rangers and their board over what action to take.”

Mr Graham was appointed as a non-executive director of the troubled club on Tuesday in respect of his media work backing Dave King having previously given his support to Craig Whyte and Charles Green.

Concerns were immediately raised online about his suitability with a number of sources screen grabbing his excessive tweets and extremist views captured on various supporter podcasts.

Despite that information being easy to source Mr Graham was appointed a NED with minimal background checks into his suitability for such a public role.

Yesterday a club statement said: “The club are aware of Director Chris Graham’s tweet in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo atrocity and a robust investigation into this matter is underway.

“Rangers would like to stress that we strongly disagree with intolerance of a religious or racist nature.”

Mr Graham remains a NED of the company running the football club.
