Ronny’s dilemma

Stuart ArmstrongRonny Deila will face one of his toughest tests today- picking the Celtic midfield to play Dundee United.

Since the signing of Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven the hoops boss hasn’t been short of options in the middle of the park.

A number of circumstances have reduced Deila’s options but this afternoon, with the exception of the suspended Anthony Stokes, he has almost a full hand to select from.

After missing out on the last three matches most fans would expect Mackay-Steven and Armstrong to come straight into the side with Stefan Johansen, suspended for the Scottish Cup replay, also an automatic choice for many.

Five into three doesn’t go with the trio above competing with Kris Commons and James Forrest for a starting place in today’s SPFL clash.

With an international break coming up there is little need for players to be rested although three matches over seven days could count against Commons.

“We have a big squad and so many good players and I’ve said all the time that we have to use our squad,” the Celtic boss said looking at his options.

“With so many matches we need options, so this is just a luxury for me and we will have a good squad for that game.

“The biggest challenge is to start thinking of results as you have to think about progress and be ready for very training session and every match. You have to focus on what we can do something with.

“That’s always a challenge to every team that’s doing well. Success makes you more individualistic and you can start thinking of yourself and start doing other things because when you do well, you get a lot of opportunities for other things, so you can lose your focus and you start losing games.”

After the international break Celtic are away to St Mirren on April 3- the first of six fixtures over a 19 day period.
