MCLEAN STEVEN bbcSteven McLean will referee Saturday’s Premiership clash between Kilmarnock and Hamilton Accies on Saturday.

The controversial whistler was spared a match last weekend, working as fourth official at the Hamilton v Motherwell match, following his performance in the Celtic v Inverness Caley Thistle Scottish Cup tie.

McLean’s decision not to award Celtic a penalty when Josh Meekings handled a net-bound Leigh Griffiths header sparked a storm of controversy prompting Celtic to send a letter to the SFA. Eight days after asking for clarification there has been no public response from the SFA.

Celtic were leading Inverness Caley Thistle 1-0 at the time of the incident with McLean appearing to have a clear view of Meekings using his arm to block the header.

The following day Celtic stated: “WITH the Club being inundated today, Celtic can confirm that it has written to the SFA regarding yesterday’s match and in particular the incident involving Leigh Griffiths and Josh Meekings.

First and foremost we absolutely congratulate Inverness Caledonian Thistle on reaching the Scottish Cup final. They are a fantastic club and reaching the final is a great achievement.

However, given the level of reaction from our supporters and across football, we are duty bound to seek an understanding of what actually happened.

We have not been given any other specific explanation so far and this is simply to understand the circumstances of what went on and why such an obvious error was made.”

While McLean is on duty at Rugby Park Celtic’s home match with Dundee will be refereed by Bobby Madden who is in for a busy time.

After taking charge of the Celtic match on Friday night Madden will be the fourth official at Tynecastle on Saturday for the lunchtime clash between Hearts and Sevco which will be refereed by Calum Murray. The Falkirk v Hibs match, scheduled to kick off at the same time will be refereed by Don Robertson.

Alan Muir who was the additional assistant at the Celtic v Inverness Caley Thistle cup tie will referee Saturday’s Championship match between Alloa and Cowdenbeath.
