Two months after a night out in Edinburgh ended up on the front pages Scott Brown demonstrated once again just what he means to Celtic.
Yesterday’s performance at Aberdeen said everything about the midfielder as he battled and snapped for 90 minutes to see off Aberdeen while scoring the perfect goal to decide the match.
As Barry Robson picked himself up after losing the ball to his former Celtic team-mate Brown was already charging towards the halfway line prompting Leigh Griffiths and Stuart Armstrong into action.
By the time Armstrong cut the ball into the six yard box his captain was putting the ball into the net before taking the ‘acclaim’ of the frustrated home support.
“You know what you get from Broony every time,” Ronny Deila said afterwards. “He is a class player. You just love to have him in your team. I understand people outside the team not liking him so much because he is so good.
“He sets the standard every time. He is a big influence in this team, he has been absolutely brilliant this season. He loves winning and is so good with his team-mates. We need strong characters to play at this club and he is one of them.”
Modestly looking back on the goal Brown said: “Stuart Armstrong twisted and turned and cut it back and to be perfectly honest I couldn’t miss. It was ideal for me.”
Eight years on from his £4m move from Hibs there are still plenty of ambitions for Brown to achieve at the forefront of Deila’s plans for the club.
