greig spenceFormer Celtic strikers Greig Spence and Kevin Cawley have quit Alloa.

Man of many clubs Spence has signed for Cowdenbeath while Cawley has moved to Dumbarton.

Alloa survived the Championship play-off with an aggregate win over Forfar but manager Danny Lennon will have to start the new season without two strikers.

I’m delighted to make Greig my first signing,” new Cowdenbeath boss Colin Nish said. “He is still young but has considerable Championship experience.

“As soon as I heard he was available I made enquiries and, despite interest from a number of clubs, I’m pleased he chose to join Cowdenbeath. I’m looking forward to working and playing alongside him in the coming season.”

After signing for Dumbarton Cawley said: “I was four years at Alloa and I loved my time there but I needed a new challenge and I think I’ll be able to help Dumbarton push on, so when I knew that the gaffer was interested in signing me, I was happy to come to the Sons.

“I set myself targets and I’d like to score goals at Dumbarton plus help the club finish higher than we did last season. Being involved in the relegation play-offs whilst exciting is something we want to avoid.

Players always want to take on new challenges and at Dumbarton I think I’ll get that extra motivation.”

Other former Celts on the move this summer include Joe Chalmers joining Motherwell, James Keatings switching to Hibs while Ryan Conroy and Robbie Thomson have signed for Queen of the South.
