Guidetti: I’m not at Celta for the money

John Guidetti has claimed that his move to Celta Vigo wasn’t motivated by money.

During the final months of his loan with Celtic the striker was linked with a number of club’s with some eye watering terms being discussed.

With his Manchester City contract set to expire the 23-year-old was free to take his pick with Marseilles, Lazio, Feyenoord and Sporting Lisbon expressing an interest.

Celta Vigo appeared late on the scene and came up with a five year contract shortly after Guidetti lifted the U-21 European Championship crown with Sweden.

Taking a break from from Celta’s pre-season training camp in Germany he told Swedish newspaper Expressen: “This club fits me like a glove. It was not money I was looking for, it was something else, it was at this club.

There were interested clubs playing in the biggest leagues. There were also clear options outside of Europe, but there was nothing my agent took up with me because he knew that it didn’t interest me.

I understand people who do it, I respect them 100 percent but I wanted to play in one of the best leagues in the world.”

Celta finished last season in eighth place in La Liga with the arrival of the unorthodox Swede creating a stir in the changing room.

Having spent his career in England, Holland and Scotland Guidetti is used to adapting with Augusto Fernandez noting the impact of the new arrival.

The Celta captain said: “I get on well with him, he has a way of playing that is very dynamic, aggressive and with a big presence.

It’s good to have him in the dressing room, hopefully he’ll deliver on the pitch as well. He is very open and social so I don’t think he’ll have any problems settling in.”
