Green hit with delay in hearing for his Sevco costs

Charles Green will be forced to wait a month to discover if Sevco will pay his legal costs.

The founding father of the club left Ibrox in April 2013 with a contract covering his legal costs for the next seven years. The agreement was listed in the 2012 IPO and signed off by chairman Malcolm Murray.

Last month Mr Green, Gary Withey, David Grier, David Whitehouse, Paul Clark and Imran Ahmad were charged with serious fraud in connection with the asset transfer from Rangers (IL) to Sevco (Scotland/5088) in 2012.

That case will open on Friday at the High Court in Edinburgh with a guilty verdict likely to put the validity of the club from Ibrox in jeopardy with liquidators BDO having a claim to the assets leaving the club without a ground and having to pay rental for Ibrox.

Providing Mr Green with the best legal support available would seem to be in the interest of the club but the businessman from Yorkshire has had his claim for costs rejected by Dave King.

Mr Green’s claim for legal costs was heard today by Lord Tyre at the Court of Session with November 12 and 13 set aside to hear the case.

After receiving the claim Mr King issued a club statement saying: “Charles Green approached the club prior to his arrest and demanded that we pay his legal costs in respect of his co-operation with Police Scotland into his time as an officer of the club.

“I advised him that we would not do so. He was subsequently arrested and has now approached the court to compel the club to pay the legal costs of his defence to the criminal charges. This application will be strongly resisted.”
