Chris Sutton goes on the warpath- We’re learning that we’re not good enough

Chris Sutton couldn’t hold back his anger as he analysed Celtic’s Europa League ko on BT Sport.

A 2-1defeat at home to Ajax left Celtic bottom of Group A as Ajax and Fenerbahce battle it out to join Molde in the last 32 of the Europa League.

Sutton has commentated on every one of Celtic’s European ties this season and sounded like an angry and frustrated fan as he let off steam alongside Stan Petrov and John Hartson.

We’ve been through the campaign and Celtic are out, they need to look at the bigger picture,” Sutton claimed.

I think that I’ve counted18 players that Ronny Deila has brought in and I’ll tell you- Boyata, Janko, Bailly, Ciftci, Cole, Allan, Simonevic, Denayer, Wakaso, Guidetti, Scepovic, Mackay-Steven and Armstrong- tell me one of those players that has truly grown up and did a job for Celtic because I can’t.”

After a few comments from Stan Petrov Sutton really got into full flow adding: “Learning curves, they were talking about learning curves in the interview, they are trying to get into the Champions League and they talking about learning curves in the Europa League!

I’ll tell you what we are learning, we’re learning that we’re not good enough for Europe, that’s what we are learning. The recruitment hasn’t been good enough, I’m not just blaming Ronny the club need’s to have a good look at itself.”

Presenter Darrell Currie turned to John Hartson to pick things up with Petrov highlighting that the club has lost two goals a game in each of their last seven European ties before Sutton resumed his crusade.

The big picture is important,” he added. “We are hearing yesterday Ronny Deila saying that we need experiended players in January. There’s been mistakes from the club for not signing good enough experienced players.

If it’s Ronny Deila, Peter Lawwell or whoever picks the players somebody has to take responsibility. I’m not just blaming Ronny but the club has this policy of trying to buy and develop players but the players aren’t good enough.

They are telling us now about buying experienced players in January which everybody else could see for the last year and a half and now we’ve to buy into that?”

Finishing up Sutton added: “The club needs investment, it’s not rocket science, things are going to get worse. If you keep selling off your best players and you are not improving you are just going to get worse and worse.

The fans stand there clapping the players off the park- do they really deserve that? I don’t think so.

I’m not just blaming Ronny, the club needs to look at their signings, I’ve named the players and you tell me other than Craig Gordon one of them who has looked really good in a Celtic jersey?”
