Deila sets out his January transfer plan

Ronny Deila will concentrate on experience when the January transfer window opens.

In three transfer windows in charge the Norwegian has concentrated on the unofficial Celtic policy of targeting players under 24 capable of being developed and sold to the English Premier League.

Following that policy Nadir Ciftci, Dedryck Boyata, Ryan Christie, Saidy Janko and Jozo Simunovic were signed during the summer with Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong recruited in January.

The recent signing of Carlton Cole hinted at a departure from that model with Deila ready to concentrate on experience when the window opens in five weeks time.

We have a lot of talent, but you need leaders or parents to these players to get them to grow,” the Celtic boss explained.

Ryan Christie is coming, Scott Allan, Callum McGregor and Aidan Nesbitt are all younger too – you need leaders around these young boys to get the best of out of them.

We know what kind of budget we have. It is possible. We have to look at players who are important in their teams and not in the biggest leagues. You don’t get a guy from the English Premier League who is playing week in, week out. We also get players who are in their way not good enough for that level, but who want to have a different challenge.”
