Watch the goals as Celtic crush Aberdeen

After the nightmare performance and fall out from their 3-1 defeat in Molde Celtic have rattled off three consecutive domestic wins to strengthen their position domestically.

In less than two months a five point deficit on Aberdeen has been turned into a six point lead in the Premiership with Derek McInnes’ side a distant third.

Since Aberdeen’s 1-1 draw at home to Motherwell last Saturday Celtic had been in action twice, beating Dundee United and Hearts as the clock ticked towards a crucial Premiership match that would make or break the challenge from Pittodrie.

In the lead up to the match McInnes had gone on record about his admiration for Leigh Griffiths, after two first half misses it looked like that praise may have had an adverse effect on the Celtic striker with the first half looking like ending goal-less.

With the interval in sight Kieran Tierney sent in the sort of cross that strikers live for, Griffiths knew what to expect, timed his run perfectly and headed low and purposefully beyond Danny Ward to open the scoring.

Eight minutes into the second half Ash Taylor’s frustrations led to him committing a brutal and pointless foul on Kris Commons that was fully punished by Griffiths from the penalty spot.

When James Forrest showed two great touches to put Celtic three up it looked like the Dons would head home on the end of a four or five goal beating.

When Tierney and Jozo Simunovic were replaced Celtic’s defence suddenly looked vulnerable with Adam Rooney’s late goal providing no consolation as Aberdeen’s depressing run continues.
