Deila gets set for busy transfer window

Ronny Deila is expecting a busy time when the transfer window opens in a fortnight.

Twelve months ago the Norwegian brought in Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong as Celtic shook off Aberdeen to clinch the Premiership title and went head-to-head with Inter Milan in the Europa League.

Deila made a further six signings in the summer, and more recently snapped up Carlton Cole, and is looking forward to strengthening his squad during January.

I think the transfer window is going to be the same as last year when we got in players that strengthened our squad,” the Celtic boss explained. “I think that’s important now – that when we come out of the January window we’re better than we were at the start.

We want to put ourselves in a good position throughout the season and also so we can build a team that can hopefully help us win the league and help get us into the Champions League after qualification.

It’s not about numbers it’s more about what quality you can get and what is available.

Of course I have my thoughts about what we need and I will work hard to get those wishes right.”

Ryan Christie will be officially recalled from his loan to Inverness Caley Thistle with the midfielder currently getting treatment at Lennoxtown for a knee injury.

It’s unclear which areas of the squad that Deila will be looking to strengthen in with the hoops boss hoping to agree new contracts with James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths.

Despite recent injuries to Scott Brown, Kris Commons and Charlie Mulgrew Deila has been able to bring in Callum McGregor and Scott Allan without any impact on results.
