Celtic v UMF Stjarnan - UEFA Champions League Second Qualifying Round First LegThe SPFL are facing another fixture row with Celtic almost certain to face two top six sides for a third home match in the post split fixtures.

All of the current top six, with the exception of Aberdeen, will have visited Celtic Park twice by the time fixture 33 is played.

Celtic are due three home matches after the split with one of them certain to be against Derek McInnes’ side with one two other clubs facing the short straw of playing three away matches and one home game against the hoops.

Of the current top six Ross County and St Johnstone have already visited Celtic Park twice with Dundee and Hearts due before the split which starts on April 23.

The problem doesn’t get any easier if one of those sides drops out of the top six with seventh placed Inverness Caley Thistle also having chalked up two trips to the east end of Glasgow.

The SPFL have a seeding system in place to work out which club faces a third away match that could result in Hearts finishing the season with just one match against Celtic at Tynecastle.

With Hearts spending last season in the Championship they will have dropped out of the complex fixture planning equation which is unlikely to go down well on Gorgie Road.

In order to avoid this scenario the SPFL would require Partick Thistle or Motherwell to work their way into the top six.

Before that scenario unfolds Celtic have got six fixtures to face with two of them against on form Dundee starting at home on Wednesday night.

Paul Hartley’s side are on a seven match unbeaten run with the former Celt delighted by their display against Inverness Caley Thistle despite being held to a 1-1 draw.

After the match Hartley said: “On another day, we could have won this match 5-1. We were thinking it’s not our day, but with this group of players they just keep going to the end.

“I’m delighted for Kane to get his 20th goal. It’s a fantastic achievement.

“We’re going into a testing week mentally with two games in Glasgow in the space of a few days but I believe in them,” Hartley said.

“It says a lot for their spirit that they never give up. I’m really pleased with them overall as they have lost just once since the New Year. That’s a pretty good record.”
