Stevie McLeanAlan Muir will referee Celtic’s match at Kilmarnock on Saturday.

In his only previous Celtic appointment this season Muir missed two clear penalty incidents in the 1-0 win away to Motherwell in October and this may make you think twice about enjoying a promotion on Ladbrokes.

Those decisions came as little surprise after his role as an additional assistant during last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final defeat from Inverness Caley Thistle at Hampden.

Muir was less than 10 yards away when Josh Meekings used his hand to save a net-bound header from Leigh Griffiths but failed to notify Steven McLean.

That incident proved to be a turning point in the match with Inverness winning 3-2 after extra time with Meekings playing a full part in the victory.

The day after the match a statement from Celtic asked: “WITH the Club being inundated today, Celtic can confirm that it has written to the SFA regarding yesterday’s match and in particular the incident involving Leigh Griffiths and Josh Meekings.

First and foremost we absolutely congratulate Inverness Caledonian Thistle on reaching the Scottish Cup final. They are a fantastic club and reaching the final is a great achievement.

However, given the level of reaction from our supporters and across football, we are duty bound to seek an understanding of what actually happened.

We have not been given any other specific explanation so far and this is simply to understand the circumstances of what went on and why such an obvious error was made.”

No reply was ever made public, McLean and Muir have been given Celtic matches this season.
