SFADerek McInnes has successfully appealed against a one match touchline ban after being sent to the stand by Bobby Madden during the recent win away to Dundee United.

The Aberdeen boss was sent to the stand during the first half of the match after Madden disallowed a ‘goal’ for the Dons.

After his outburst McInnes was offered a one match suspension with the SFA stating: “that on or around the 37th minute of the above match you committed misconduct and used offensive, abusing and insulting language towards the Match Officials.”

McInnes appealed against the decision with the sentence suspended until the end of the season- eight matches away.

This afternoon Aberdeen stated: “Aberdeen have today successfully appealed Derek McInnes one-game touchline ban.”

With his touchline ban suspended McInnes will be able to take his place in the dug-out for Aberdeen’s next match- at home to Hamilton Accies.

Last month after losing at Inverness Caley Thistle Willie Collum was the focus for McInnes’ anger with the Dons boss saying: “There were some key decisions in both boxes that went against us. That’s been quite pivotal in the outcome. For their penalty award, at the time, I didn’t think there was anything in it.

Having seen it, there’s no contact. I think the player has bought a penalty there, to be honest. He’s gone down under no contact and the referee has assumed there has been contact. We’re disappointed.

Back in December, I thought their same player has bought a penalty, gone down a bit easy. It was the same tonight. You’re hoping the referee sees it. If he sees it again, I think he’d make a different decision.

He’s gone down under no contact and tried to make out there was. It is clearly not a penalty.”

No action was taken after that outburst.
