Lawwell BankierChris Sutton has no idea what a Scottish Cup semi-final win would do for Ronny Deila’s credibility.

The former hoops striker has been an outspoken critic of Deila with the European results a particular source of frustration and disappointment.

Over the last month supporter opinion has hardened against the Norwegian but there appears to be no sign of concern from within the club.

Winning a semi-final against lower division opponents would appear to have little bearing on terms of Celtic’s European aspirations with Sutton in the dark about how the power brokers view the situation.

A win would give Ronny the chance of a double but I don’t know whether it’s gone so far for him,” he admitted as he looked forward to next month’s Scottish Cup semi-final. “I don’t know what the board are thinking with respect to next season and whether Ronny is going to be there or not.

A win would be big, but we could speculate as much as we like for these next five weeks. It will probably be easier to judge afterwards.

I’m not on the Celtic board, that’s not my decision but having said that, the decision-making has surprised me, just as it’s maybe surprised a lot of people.

If you’re asking me if a win would help him, then possibly it would. But there have been a lot of things I haven’t found logical or been able to understand this season.

Like why they have eight No10s and are short in other areas. That doesn’t make any sense to me.

Also, the decision-making in terms of if Celtic were going to change manager, why not give him a transfer window to shop in?”

Sutton added: “If they are going to change the manager that would have allowed him to prepare for the magnitude of next season.

Now, if they change in the summer, that won’t give the new manager a lot of time. Do the board have questions to answer as much as Ronny Deila? I’d say that was pretty logical.

Should Peter Lawwell be under pressure? He’s the decision-maker, so that goes without saying.

The fact that nobody is turning up to games — or very few supporters are turning up to games — tells its own story.

The worry for me is that I just don’t see how this team next season can compete in Europe at the level they’re currently playing at.

If Celtic were to meet Rangers (Sevco) today or tomorrow, I think they’d be a worry for Celtic. but there is so much time before the game, where things can change.”
