Lawwell DesmondWho are the directors of Celtic?

The men that deny employees a living wage, the men who set up a Remuneration Committee that awards the Chief Executive £1m/year and the men that never noticed that their city rivals were wrongly awarded a UEFA license by the SFA in 2011.

Would you trust Peter Lawwell to make the right appointment with Ronny Deila’s replacement?

In detail, according to the words of the Celtic website, here are the men that guided Celtic from the last 16 of the Champions League to losing successive semi-finals against Inverness Caley Thistle, Ross County and Sevco over 38 months.

When Peter Lawwell became chief executive in 2003 none of those clubs had kicked a ball in the top flight of Scottish football. Over the last 13 years the salary of the Celtic chief executive has increased from under £200,000 to £1m/year.

More than 24 hours has passed since the final penalty was taken at Hampden but other than a few sound-bites to apologists and messengers not a single word has come out directly from the club, perhaps communicating with customers isn’t a priority?

As well as Lawwell and Demot Desmond the Celtic board consists of:

Tom Allison has been a non-executive director since 2001 but you may not have noticed him. He is Chairman of the Remuneration Committee and a member of the Nomination Committee. Mr Allison is the nominated Senior Independent Director and an ambassador for The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow.

Lord Livingston of Parkhead was appointed to the Board as an independent non-executive director in October 2007 and chairs the Audit Committee. Lord Livingston was Minister of State for Trade and Investment until May 2015. He was Chief Executive of BT Group plc until September 2013, having also served as chief executive of BT Retail and as Group Finance Director.

Eric Riley was appointed to the Board as a non-executive Director on 1 January 2016, having retired as Financial Director with effect from 31 December 2015 after 21 years of dedicated service to the Company in that role. A chartered accountant, Eric serves as a member of the Board of the Scottish Professional Football League and is a member of the Finance Committee of the European Club Association. Mr Riley is also a director of The Celtic Football and Athletic Club Limited.

Brian Wilson was appointed as a non-executive Director in June 2005. Formerly a Member of Parliament, Mr Wilson also held several ministerial posts during his political career. He is a director of several private companies including Harris Tweed Hebrides Limited and Havana Energy Limited. In 2011, he was named UK Global Director of the Year by the Institute of Directors and is a Trade Ambassador for the UK Government.

Christopher McKay Financial Director, joined the Company in January 2016 from a senior position with global consultancy firm Deloitte, where he spent the last 18 years in professional services. Chris qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte in 2000 and has spent the last 15 years within the Financial Advisory area.
