Livingston have issued a humiliating and embarrassing apology after being caught up in a fixture fall-out with Sevco fans.
After finding out that their final Championship fixture had been put back to Sunday lunchtime to coincide with the coronation of Mark Warburton’s Gladiators, Livi answered a tweet explaining to a fan the reason for the fixture switch for their match with Raith Rovers.
Responding to last season’s shambles when Neil Doncaster tried to give the Ibrox club a helping hand by playing after Hibs had completed their campaign this season the Championship schedule will be completed by 12.30 kick-off’s on May 1.
Responding to a question about the kick off being moved the official Livi twitter account stated: “Naturally, 2 tier rules to suit The Rangers #farce.”
That message prompted a deluge of anger from fans of the Ibrox clubs with Livingston forced into a late night statement to explain themselves.
The statement read: “Earlier this evening the Club’s Twitter account was used to send a flippant reply to a comment concerning the movement of our last game of the season to Sunday 1 May.
“This was done in error by a trusted volunteer who assisted with our social media, as they believed the comment was being made from their own personal account and not the Club’s. The volunteer has subsequently withdrawn their services from the Club, and all their LFC social media privileges have been revoked.
“The comment was deleted as soon as it was discovered and a disclaimer issued, but infortunately (sp) a screenshot has since been shared on social media and has generated some heated responses.
“Livingston FC would like to clarify that we do not share this individual’s view and have no issues with the Raith Rovers game being moved by the SPFL.
“We also apologise unreservedly for any upset this error has caused.”
Rather than ditch a faithful volunteer perhaps an unreserved apology to supporters and season ticket holders may have been in the club’s best interest.
With leadership like this it’s little wonder that a club with a going concern warning, that refuses to pay a three year old fine and with accumulated debt equal to their turnover is given the red carpet treatment by the football authorities.
