Stevie McLeanBungling Alan Muir has been selected for Assistant Referee Duty at the Hibs v Dundee United Scottish Cup semi-final- 12 months after failing to spot Josh Meekings handle a netbound Leigh Griffiths header in last season’s Celtic v Inverness Caley Thistle semi-final.

That incident changed the course of the game with Muir, referee Steven McLean and linesman Frank Connor all failing to spot the handball which should have resulted in a red card for Meekings and a penalty to Celtic.

The incident occurred in the first half with ICT going on to win 3-2 after extra-time. Mur was around six yards from the incident with the specific remit for those type of incidents.

Additional assistant Muir and McLean were the main targets for criticism after the match but 12 months later Muir has been given the exact same task for the Dundee United v Hibs match on Apri16.

After losing out last season Ronny Deila said: “That was a tough day and hard to take of course. I don’t have to say much about the penalty incident, everybody could see what happened.

We have five referees, maybe we need seven – I don’t know. One on each post. He has one task. He has to look at something on the goalline. You can’t blame the main referee for that.

A big moment in the game? I don’t think it, everybody knows it. The game was finished if we got it. Referees make mistakes, but this one was very hard to take.

It’s a big blow for the boys. I’m very disappointed. We had control at 11 against 11 and we should have killed the game before. We didn’t do it and put ourselves in a very sad situation.

I didn’t say so much to the referee after the game. I just asked if he knew what he had done. That’s it.”
