Karaoke McCoistAlly McCoist has claimed that he was pipped at the post for TWO manager jobs in the English Championship.

The former Question of Sport funnyman has been out of football for 18 months since walking away from Sevco as their Premiership promotion bid fell to pieces following a Petrofac Cup semi-final defeat from Alloa.

McCoist has kept a low profile since triggering a clause in his contract that doubled his salary by giving the cash strapped Ibrox club 12 months notice.

Getting a job in the Championship is becoming increasingly competitive with the Premiership management posts dominated by the biggest names in the game.

Derby County, Blackburn Rovers, Leeds and Doncaster Rovers have all appointed new managers in the last ten days without any mention of Alastair being in contention.

Speaking yesterday at an event staged by Ladbrokes he claimed: “I had a couple of interviews with a couple of Championship clubs down south which went well.

“I didn’t get the job unfortunately but that’s fine. I got down to the last two in both instances, so I was pleased to get back into it. I’ve missed the job, of course I have.

“I’ve been involved in football all my life. I was professional for 22 years and then involved with Walter Smith and Tommy Burns at Scotland before returning to Rangers with Walter. It’s my life.

“I’ve enjoyed the bit of time off I’ve had and the chance to do things I’ve not been able to do, like my telly work but football is my game and I’m looking to get back managing again.”

As well as failing to win the Petrofac Cup in three attempts McCoist lost out in the League Cup to Falkirk, Forfar and Inverness Caley Thistle, in the Scottish Cup he lost three times to Dundee United including a semi-final staged at Ibrox.

In Europe his defeats to Malmo and Maribor led to administration followed by liquidation.
