Patrick Roberts is delighted to have kept his Champions League dream alive.

When he agreed an 18 month loan deal from Manchester City in January playing in the premier club tournament was the priority.

The young Englishman scored an exquisite third goal to finish off Lincoln Red Imps and take Celtic a step closer to the group phase.

After the match he admitted: “I want to play in the Champions League, always been my dream. It’s a team game so you’ve got to do what’s best for the team.

I love football, enjoyed it since I was a kid and whenever I get the ball I try to do something special.

I’ve loved being out there since I’ve come here and when I get the chance I try to play at my best.”

Roberts was an unused substitute in last week’s defeat in Gibraltar but still felt the pain of the result.

Reaching the group phase of the Champions League will ease the pain of that result with the memories still vivid for Roberts.

“It was disappointing last week, tough place to go but should be winning games like that,” he added.

We had to make it better. We did that and put a good performance in.”

Roberts played on the right of a five man midfield as Rodgers switched from a 4-4-2 set up to 3-5-2 with just Mikael Lustig, Erik Sviatchenko and Kieran Tierney strung across the back.

Next week Celtic will travel to face Astrana who beat Zalgiris of Lithuania on a 2-1 aggregate.
