Shane Duffy is turning into the most wanted defender in football.

According to the Irish Independent West Brom and Wolves are the latest clubs to be linked with the Blackburn defender who impressed for Ireland at Euro 2016.

With a year left on his contract Blackburn would rather take a fee now than let the player run down his contract.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring the Derryman to Celtic Park but with a fee of £2m English clubs are picking up their interest in Duffy.

Swansea, Hull and Crystal Palace are all tracking the defender with Blackburn keen to cash in even though Duffy’s defensive partner Grant Hanley is on his way to Newcastle in a £5.5m deal.

The Scotland defender has sat out all of Blackburn’s pre-season matches and is expected to complete a five year contract with Newcastle on Thursday.

Despite being in the job for over two months Brendan Rodgers has only brought in one player, Moussa Dembele from Fulham but is hopeful of concluding more business before the end of this week.

Speaking yesterday Rodgers said: “Ideally, we would want to try and at least have one more in by the deadline (Thursday for the third qualifying round of the Champions League),” the Celtic boss said. “Is it realistic? I would hope so. It won’t be the fault of this club if not.

The club are looking to do everything they can to support my needs and what I want. I want it now but it doesn’t always work out that way. The market is slow due to the types of players I want to bring in.

I don’t want a player, I want the right player who can give us quality but it’s always about availability, affordability and timing.”
