Leigh Griffiths can’t believe that Celtic didn’t get a first half penalty against Astana.

Shortly after going behind the hoops mounted a promising attack that saw Griffiths thread the ball through to Moussa Dembele.

As the former Fulham man muscled in front of a defender and shaped up to shoot he was bundled over onto the ground. Play on said the referee!

It looked a stonewall penalty from where I was standing on the pitch,” Griffiths said.

Moussa got past his man and he wouldn’t have missed from there. He was in on goal and got pulled down — for me it was a stonewall penalty.

I turned round and saw the gaffer and he was asking the fourth official. The ref said he got the ball and it was one of those decisions that go against you.

Hopefully they even themselves out over the season.”

Despite that disappointment Celtic bounced back to earn a draw with marksman Griffiths putting the result down to the impact of Brendan Rodgers.

The manager said from the first day that he came in that he was going to make us more compact and hard to beat,” the former Hibs striker said.

If we keep playing the way we did in the second half, we will definitely be hard to beat. They didn’t create many clear-cut chances, but we had a threat.

Thankfully, I’ve scored an important away goal here and we’ll look to go back to Celtic Park and finish the job.

Had we been better on a couple of occasions with the final pass, we could have scored more.”
