Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in FOUR new signings to Celtic.

So far the Irishman has made only two signings- Moussa Dembele and Kolo Toure- while Carlton Cole, Colin Kazim Richards, Stefan Scepovic, Anthony Stokes and Charlie Mulgrew have been removed from the wage bill.

With a bloated squad Rodgers has insisted that he will only bring in players ready to go straight into the team.

Discussing the needs of his squad after losing to Barcelona the Celtic boss told The Sun: “How many would I like to bring in? Ideally I would like another four. We shall see if that’s do-able. It just takes time. I respect that and understand that.

We’re still a long way away from where I want to be, but I can’t deny the mental strength of the players.

There were some really good moments in this game but the reality is there are going to be other players coming in to help the team. The attitude and energy have been first-class.”

Since he took over from Ronny Deila Rodgers has been exceptionally diplomatic as he attempts to get the most from the players he inherited while attempting to impose his own ideas and players.

After beating Lincoln Red Imps in the second round of the Champions League qualifiers the Irishman stated that he hoped to bring in two players for the matches with Astana.

That deadline passed without any additions to the squad although Kolo Toure was added as a wildcard, however the former Liverpool defender is unlikely to be pitched into the return tie with Astana.

With one month left in the transfer window it seems that the pace of change is about to be stepped up as Rodgers puts his stamp on the club while attempting to reach the group phase of the Champions League.
